Ford focus problems 1.8 T reg
« on: 03 September 2010, 11:34:56 »

Its not a big deal but its really annoying. The car revs up to about 2k of its own accord and between gears it doesnt seem to drop the revs as much as it should. Ive cleaned out the throttle body any other ideas. Cheers Rik

Typical Focus air leak I suspect. MAF sensor is also a good place to look.

Try to get some good ford focus parts for that one in order to fix it. If not, try to really find some ways to fix that problem, otherwise it will really act up frequently.

please please please dont waste any money on diagnostic plug ons!this is a common focus problem.there is a breather hose either:
1) in the loop of the inlet manifold
2) just at the rear/bottom of the throttle body.

These go soft and crappy with the oil fumes which then tears/rips creating an air leak.please dont waste any money on diag untill youve checked them out! :y :y :y

If looking at the above doesn't sort it...

ring up ford and check that yours had the recall for the revving issue. With my V reg 1.8 there was a free ECU update that would sort something very similar out to what you are experiencing.

I know its really cheeky but is there any one near me that i could pop round with the car and can have a look under the bonnet as i hate taking it to any garage just to get screwed over. I will only be back from all the wedding stuff in about two weeks time. So if any one is about i would really appreciate it. Rik
