renault kangoo
« on: 07 September 2010, 21:04:08 »

hi everyone, i wonder if i can ask a little advice from you very clever people?
A good friend of mine got a renault kangoo 1.6 automatic on a 07 plate today, and drove it about 50 miles to my place before discovering it was leaking fluid from the transmission.
The garage who sold it then came out and agreed it was losing transmission fluid but that this would not be a problem and was easily fixed.(is this from the auto gearbox?)
The garage then took the car away to be fixed.
The car has a 3 month warranty and the man from the garage said that it was absolutely nothing to be concerned about.
Could this have done damage to the gearbox that might surface in the future and is this something to be concerned about?
many many thanks..shell xx

Yes it could have done damage to the gearbox, but it depends on how much fluid has been lost & only the garage that carried out the work would know.

I'd be concerned, options might be
- Pull out of the sale and ask for a refund, I think you could reasonably ask for this
- Accept a repair, but ask for an extension to the guarantee, again a reasonable request

Ask how long will be needed for the repair, obviously an extended repair time means there is major work - and gives good reason to request the refund.

Short repair time means either a minor problem or a quick bodge, so press for details of what has been done and feed this back here for more advice.

Points to think about.....

IF the work takes 3 days, it wasn't something small, and thats 3 days off the warranty

Legally, you can request an extension to the warranty if the suppyling garage has to do any work on it, and also you should ALWAYS worry about an auto box leak, there are very few places it could leak from on a Kangoo, and ALL of them are major. i.e valve plate, inspection plate, and traction/transmission joins like diff etc.

Do not be fobbed off by the garage, request a full description of any work done, so in the future if you do have a problem you have something legal to fight the claim with, (assuming the garage is not a "backstreet" one that only deals in hard cash........etc,)

any discription of work done and possible extended warranty should be on paper (headed) ..don't except anything less and definately don't except word of mouth as its not admissable and hard to prove should there be a small claims action. if they are not willing to do this pull out of the sale and demand a refund

I would be wanting my money back, unless it was a very simple fault, as others have said really...
