Love my MV6 and I've gone and hurt her :(
« on: 27 November 2010, 11:03:52 »

Sorry I haven't been active here for a while. Main reason all has been well with our wonderful MV6. Until this happened. A braindead moment in a car park at between 5 and 10mph. I fear I'm not going to be able to find a replacement Irmscher front bumper/air dam assembly. I hope I'm not breaking the rules by asking if anyone knows where there is one.
I know you all love your miggy's and I know you'd all be sad to see this wonderful original example have to be broken due to this relatively minimal damage.
I've sourced bonnet, wing, headlight which I think should cover most of the visible damage (bonnet is stuck closed). Just the big fat Irmscher bit that is so much of this cars identity :(

So sorry for a downer of a post amongst all these wonderful examples!

the bumper damage doesnt look too bad, that could be plastic welded from behind and filled/painted easily, not worth the expense of sourcing a replacement just yet. main thing is the spots and mesh are ok, headlamp and bonnet/wing are easy changed.

good luck  ;)

Yep - plastic welding would sort that. :y

Cheers! I have rather surprisingly sourced a bumper! I'm just about to take off the broken one to see if any other bits are needed.

The near side fog lamp is smashed to bits behind the lens - I think it must have been crushed.

The replacement is wrong colour (gold) but I'm happy to have the front resprayed anyway (wings, bonnet and bumper (this was planned in the new year as it is.)

I want this car to go on and on :)

From sad news comes good - well done on getting a replacement bumper BB.

Will look forward to seeing your car back to good order once more. 8-) :y :y

Doesnt look too bad, as long no bits of plastic gone missing, it's repaireble. ;)

Thanks all for encouragement and pointing me in the right direction!

I've had a helluva time trying to get the broken one off. All was going smoothly until the final 2 of 3 screws found underneath in the middle where the bumper is secured to the chassis. I'm sure it comes as no surprise to hear they are completely seized. All methods of normal removal now exhausted, as am I after applying as much pressure as humanely possible so as not to shear the screw heads. They will not budge!

I'm guessing the only option now is proper seized screw removal (using a broken screw extractor and tap, but not the best of places to carry out such an operation) I'm hoping the local body shop I'll be using for respray may be able to help and I was going to saw the last bit off to detach the broken bumper from the car (and see if there are any more damaged components behind the bumper.)

*Edit

It appears I may be trying to unscrew unnecessary screws, 'vauxfan2k' has advised I may be undoing screws for the metal bumper behind the plastic! Another look in the morning!
