Xbox Live is the online gaming stuff.

Silver membership is free, Gold is a monthly fee.  Gold required for online gaming iirc.

we didn't....and TBH still don't, easiest way i found round it was not to get the headphone/mic, they can hear other people convos but cant get involved.

other thing i have found is it is very bandwidth hungry, i can tell when mine is on it as the whole network slows down, and i have a reliable 8Mb connection
i have also had to put a time cap on it as he would be on it all night long given the chance

i played Call of Duty 3 at a friends house on xbox live, brilliant game, increadable on the HD monitor.

I want the xbox and HD tv, but can't justify the cost, i won't use it as much as i should....

Or a PC monitor - thats how I get hi-def from mine (my tv upstairs has a vga input as well, something like 1280 x 768, so can't do 1024 hi-def). VGA lead is about £15...
