4 long thin nails is what I use when I can't find the proper keys. Bit more difficult to use if the radio wants to be a sod, but still possible.

I've used this method with great sucess in the past. The proper removal tools are only about £2 from most motorshop though. I'm sure the student budget could stretch to a set ::)
