« on: 30 April 2007, 22:21:33 »

Can any body give a clue as to what might be happening with car...jsut drove home down motorway at steady 70 ish..car seemed a bit lumpy and rough..when pulled of onto A road and accelerated car did not respond well and whilst it did pick up was rough and uneven....gave it a foot of throttle and eml came on then went off again......drove a bit further and then car stalled and stopped..bit grim with no power steering...tried to start again and again ran rough but light had gone out..this happened twice again but did get home.....went out about hour later and started fine and ran fine with no uneveness???is it possible to "paperclip" fault without eml being on ..all plug leads and connecters seem to be in place...bit concerned as have 250 mile drive in morning and dont want to be rac,d home

I'd suggest try the paperclip test as it may have registered the fault in the ecu, seing that the EML has been on. Cheap and easy to do there is a guide in the help section :y

Have flashed out fault codes from car and have the following registered:
73...think this may be from previous problem when cam covers replaced and plug from air ram came off

22...this is a new one
31..so is this ?

any ideas guys

What Year is your car 94-96 or 94-97 as two types of ecu have been fitted :question

Just looked again and both ecu use the same codes.

Code 22 on both ECU's

22  Throttle position sensor      Low voltage

Think this is an issue with Idle Control Valve not sure how the V6 ones are connected, think they are just pushed into a rubber sleeve on the side of the plenium.

Someone with more knowledge hopefully will confirm :y

Did you flash the codes without the engine running if so this could explain the code 31

31 Engine RPM signal (crankshaft sensor) No signal

codes flashed out without engine running..think 73 might still be stored from previous problem as unsure if they cleared once fixed or held in memory??
codes 22 and 31 seem to be new..but engine was NOT running when did test

Old codes from memory clear themselves after 20-30 good starts

73 Air Flow Sensor (AFS) Low voltage

I would be checking the connections to the MAF and throttle pot.....and looking and listening for air leaks around the engine...

Your not running an oiled cone filter are you?

if codes clear after 20/30/starts does this mean that fault is back ??regarding code 22..throttle position sensor..is this just a straight replacement with a new one?..if so where is it in engine......regarding code 31..crankshaft sensor low voltage..does this mean this also needs replacement or will it clear with engine running??

have started car this morning and all seems fine
