Knock Coming From NSF Wheel - Help Please!!!
« on: 21 May 2007, 11:07:43 »

Hi

I'm a bit new to this so apologies if I've put this question in the wrong section...

I have a 1998 2.5 CDX with a manual box. I bought the car about 8 months ago and it's always sounded like it's making a knocking noise when I go over bumps (seems to be coming from NSF wheel).

It's starting to get on my nerves now though because I've checked all the front and rear suspension, exhaust system, engine mounts and made sure there are no stones hiding in the heatsheilds (I know it sounds daft but I'm desperate!).

To save anyone who might ask I've checked the droplinks and bottom arms and all is well.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Paul

You cant check drop links when they are fitted to the car.....and it does sound like drop lnks, plus they are only 15-20 quid a pair so cheap enough to rule out.

Other possible is yet again wishbones....the rubbers on the front bush crack, pop the front bolt out and pull the front of the wishbone down and use a screw driver through the mounting hole to flex the bush and look for cracks and splits, these are often not easily visable with then still mounted.

sounds like your drop links or the track rod end.

test to see if its the track rod end by one moving the steering wheel back and forth slightly to see if you can feel a knock
and jack up the car and move the wheel by hand positioned at 3 and 9 oclock see if you can feel a knock or clunk if not its the drop links

track rod ends are about 15 quid each

drop links are about 10 quid each

blimey, that was quick!

Thanks guys  :y. I'll give the drop links a try then but the wishbones have already been replaced as that was my second guess too. I've also checked the track rod ends and the only slight bit of play was in the steering box.

drop links here we come...

Try bouncing the affected corner but instead of pushing down on the wing try lifting from the wheel arch. My clattering & banging was a drop link but it didn't show up untill I did as above.
