Climate control pannel 1998 elite..
« on: 31 May 2007, 09:13:29 »

Hi Team
I had a couple of bulbs gone on the climate display pannel,so i thought lets replace.
Got out the haynes manual it said remove radio and cage and ashtray, reach into hole where radio was, pull on ally locking bar and bingo the panel should pop out,
so i reached into hole pulled on what i thought was the locking bar!! it was not !!
what i have done is pulled on and removed a small bar about 12" long slightly cranked at both ends and i cant get access under the dash to refit it.
It looks like the two cranked ends on this bar may fit into some sort of servo motors but im not sure,
Does any one know what this bar is as i would like to get it refitted if i can. Cheers Rabbit...

I have seen a similer message before.

The bar you are looking for is square section about 10cm long - its offset slightly to the left of the radio aperture as it is central in the climate panel. Its closer to the front than the one you found.  On mine it was obscured by cables, but you could just about see it by shining a torch up and through the radio hole.

I would reach in with your palm facing upwards and feel around to locate it - its no further in than the length of your fingers and probably the height of the top of the push switches. Then put your hand in palm down , feel for it with your finger tips and ease it down - it has latches at each end so you may need to encouarge it at both sides to get it to release.

Having got the panel off it will certainly be easier to relocate the bar you removed, although I am not sure what it is.

Cheers
Ian

Done exactly the same on mine a year or so ago......  Still got this cranked wire, thickness of a coathanger, on a shelf in my garage.  Have not got a clue what its for or where it came from, despite a damn good root about when the panel etcwas removed.  I boxed it all back up again without this rod and all, touch wood, seems OK since.

Thanks For The Comments Guys
I must say the operation of the car does not seem to be affected buy the removal of this coat hanger type bar.
To refit it it looks like you would have to remove the whole of the front console in the car! nightmare,
it would just have been nice to know what the bloody thing does, surley vaux would not fit a part to a car that does nothing?or would they? Cheers ...Rabbit...
