Coolant leak.....
« on: 05 June 2007, 21:52:30 »

I've had it to my local garage today [3.0 Elite,Y reg],he couldn't locate the leak, right at the back of the engine apparantly..he's put some kinda sealant in for the time being. After a bit of a search on here,i've read it's most likely the Heater by-pass valve?Accessible under the leaf-scuttle,is that right?Don't wanna tell him how to suck eggs, but any way of saving beer-tokens n i'm all for it  ;)

Also said he couldn't get the oil filter out n it was in tight....back in the morning for another go at the filter, just wondering if the probable cause of the leak is the HBV,and is it an involved job or not.

Cheers

HBV is easy enough to change, just fiddly. Costs about £25 for the part...

.. and if it's had some "leak sealer" in it, drain down the cooling system, give it a good flush through to make sure it's all gone and fill with a 50% antifreeze mix.

Nope. Paper clip test doesn't work on them (I've tried) so there's no way to find out what they're really complaining about  ::)
