Timing Belt Change
« on: 08 June 2007, 13:23:01 »

I know this is a bit general and depends on garage and location etc, but what would do you guys think is a reasonable amount to pay to have a timing belt changed? the cars coming up for 80,000 on the clock and could probably do with a new one. I've not asked for a quote in a garage yet I just want to know how to react when the mechanic draws his breath in over his teeth!
I know all the pit falls of not having it done, I'm just wary of garages that tell you, you need a new everything else as well....god I'm getting cynical in my old age.

Well as it is the 4 pot, it is both very easy and relatively quick to do.
They MUST replace the water pump also as this is driven off the cam belt on the 4 cylinder engines.

Expect around 1.5-2.0 hrs labour for the job.

Oh and make sure the complete kit is replaced, not just the belt. :)

Its about a 1 hour 20 min job with the water pump.....plus about 150 for parts retail.....so 230 ish tops...

And its dead easy on the 4 pots.
