Larger Mystery Pipe !
« on: 02 July 2007, 22:48:54 »

Heck !   Another pipe question.

Looking back towards the HBV I've found a pipe, about  10-12mm wide, shiny that is just sitting there.

Is this the breather pipe I read about that comes from the auto transmission...Its just I read somewhere on here that within the engine bay we'll find a pipe thats "open" and its meant to be so...

Please confirm !

If yours is auto there is every chance that this is the breather....  should be secured so it doesnt fall down.

OOOOOOO okey dokey..Thank you. So its roughly in the right position to be that then ??

Tis just that it looks a little strange sticking up....so the air rises I guess.

I'll secure it..

Assuming nobody has shortened it, it might not be a bad idea to point the pipe (ie open end) down if you have the length - I cable tied mine in the shape of an upside down J if you see what I mean.  Might help keep the crap out of it.  Dont want to tie it too low as I think I remember reading on here somewhere that it might syphon otherwise.  Sure someone will correct me if I got that bit wrong.

...you could try putting a very small K&N on it... I did it with an engine cam breather on another car once (after disconnecting it from the carb because it was throwing-up muck into it!). Engine breathers do suck-in, but I don't know about autoboxes.. also not sure if it is really an issue, i.e. that dust/muck actually gets into the ATF through the autobox breather...

yes it is an issue if grit and much gets in as it is abrasive and will wear the internals like putting silicon sand in petrol tanks it doesnt take much to rip the injectors

as its left open, i would presume that either the other end it filtered, or Vauxhall don't believe its position will allow much ingress...
