Quick fuse question
« on: 03 July 2007, 20:31:09 »

Checked all my fuses today and 1 of them (heated seats and power steering) had a melted plastic blob. The actual fuse was intact and functioning. I changed it anyway but what would cause that? It was and is a 20amp, I presume that is correct.

Not sure about your model but in mine (2.5 TD) it is Fuse 14 and it's 30A

Same on mine 2.6 2001 fuse 14 rating 30A - although a later model sounds like they left the fuse id ratings alone for the heated seats etc.

Could be that it has been replaced with a 20 amp instead of 30 amp and it has been running hot as a consequence, or that the fuse itself has deteriorated and it or its' connections have gone high resistance resulting in it generating a bit more heat. I'd keep an eye on the replacement and if it runs hot too check to see if that is the correct rating for your model. Do you have the handbook? Does that list fuse ratings?

Cheers,

Kevin

I'll dig out the handbook today and double check. I suspect it probably takes a 30  :y
