Hi,some time ago i ended up locking my keys in the boot,ended up drilling out the lock and blanking it off.Anyway thought about changing my boot lock from my silver one to my blue one..but don't really want 2 keys so considered changing door and ignition too,blue ones locking is like this http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l178/uuayne/4382_1.jpg silver ones like this http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l178/uuayne/9f99_1_b.jpg can this be done and if so what other parts do i need to swap over..many thanks...Wayne

I once had to change over doors on my last Omega, basically its just the lock mechanism you got to change. CHECK FIRST that you don't have side impact air bags, as these would need to be disconnected first, otherwise they might go off.  If memory serves me right, a couple of screws to hold on the handles, not forgetting the lock button that has an insert to lever out to get it off, then remove the door card (screwdriver under and lever gently!), . Then I think there are 3 or 4 nuts holding on a diecast mechanism that has the lock barrel and a couple of pushrods, that are clipped in place with plastic clips, that just turn 90deg to release.  Somewhere in that lot is the lock barrel that you change over. Sometimes with older type locks, you can pull out the actual 'fingers' that detect the lock profile, and could change them over, so you might be able to rework your replacement boot lock to work on your old key, thus saving you having to do the doors.

Hi,boot locks not repairable,did want to change all locks/barrel. My main concern is once locks are swapped over what else do i need to do to get the remote locking working and the car started...Wayne

Easy....keep the original remote and if fitted, swap the transponders from the original keys to teh replacement set....job done.

Hi,although i do have the original remote....it's never worked because battery cover is missing and doesn't look too good inside either!,will this type of key/remote work with my car. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l178/uuayne/9f99_1_b.jpg ..although same year can't believe theres so many differences...wanted to change MID,(mine has pixels missing)i'm pretty sure mine has 2 plugs whereas other has a single plug...Wayne

The key needs to be from same manufacturer (eg Megamos, Bosch, Delphi), same type (2/3 buttons, LED/No LED etc), and same technology (IR or RF).

Then it needs to be programmed to car with Tech1 (IR) or Tech2 (RF), and RF ones need 'carpass'

I'm guessing your 1997 car will be Megamos, RF, with LED.


I'm also guessing your 1997 is preminifacelift, in which case you need the earlier MID with 2 connectors, and it will need to be programmed to match the car config (engine/gearbox)
