V6 idling

Hello fellow Omega lovers.
I have a 1999 V6 CDX pre face lift model which has an intermittent idling fault. idle valve is  spotless,
no obvious breather pipes loose either. (The revs drop but never race?) . Vauxhall says no point putting on TEC 2 machine as they wouldn't find it being intermittent..
any ideas anyone???

Had similar issues to you..after replacing throttle position sensor and then icv unit traced problem to fault with wiring..to be more precise it was the plug that goes into the tps....had a voltage drop with sensor that was cured by going to breakers and getting a relacement plug and section of loam ..rejoined cables and all works fine..it turned out that cable had worn through casing in cable tray and was shorting out on bracket for air con pipe..if you go back over posts from past 2 weeks you may find your problem is similar as i was given loads of help..best of luck with it

Use the paper clip emthod described on the forum to read and check the fault codes, even if its very intermittent, the chances are a code will be stored.

Mmm? Paper clip on a '99 car?! I can't on my 99 V6 - it requires a (Cheapo)Tech II to talk to it.

Well I can on my 99 Cdx and 2001 Cdx.....both 2.5 V6.....I could on my 3.0 98 to....

Perhaps I'd just assumed you couldn't as it needs Tech II rather than Tech I  :-[

I ain't trying it .... i might prove myself wrong!  ::)

Thanks for getting back so soon you guys. i'll go and have a look under the bonnet now even though
its blummin raining.....
one more thing though.....
i've been informed by Vauxhalls that when they changed the timing belt and rollers they noticed my "heat exchange unit" has been seeping and this would cost £750 to replace when it finally goes.
is this a resonable price to pay for this? [smiley=shocked.gif] [smiley=shocked.gif]

Do they mean the oil cooler?

If so, you can do it yourself for less than £100...

That was done to my car at the end of Feb. this year by tjhe Previous owner they changed a few pipes aswel as the head gasket.
at Opel it cost  982,92€ about 620 quid so 750 is not to over the top for Vx


I know its in German but i just wanted you to see that it is the going rate at you local neighberhood Vx dealer

Given thet the oil-water heat exchanger has very obvious symptoms when it 'seeps'....I suspect they are referring to the block mating seal weeping.....and hence it has a slight coolant leak.

This sounds exactly like the speech i was given about 2 years when i had my cam belt done at the dealers........

Are you losing coolant? if not then i wonder if they are 'fishing' for more work, knowing our friendly and super relaible vauxhall dealer network i could never see them doing something like that.  ;) ;D
