Air con packed up
« on: 18 July 2007, 18:54:27 »

Hello all, after replacing my DIS pack in april my air con has not worked.
I had to do the job the hard way due to size of hands & limited tools. Off came scuttle plenum & injector rail. Long winded i know.
Anyway, after reassembly i checked connections of all vacuum hoses & all seem to be correct, multiram is working fine but aircoen will not blow cold anymore, clutch on compressor seems to be engaging as revs dip when ECO button is pressed. Been through fusebox & all ok in there. Removed charging point cover & got squirt of gas so there is gas in system. Would this most likely be coincidence or is there the possibility I could have dislodged or trapped something whilst changing DIS pack.
Many thanks again Jez

Rechecked and it is connected. Disconnecting the battery would not have upset anything would it?

Unlikely. If you have climate, reset the servos as described in manual.

The one that comes with the car - you know, the one that says 'this is an indicator, push up to signal right' type book...

** Usual care warnings about poking about near engines when they are running!! **

A very rudimentary check, but does the AC pipework get cold with the engine running with AC on and ECO off?  It ought to get cold enough for moisture to condense on the outside of the pipe which you can then easily see.  This ought to tell you if the system is basically functional...

Hi, air con was fine till DIS unit was changed. Heater still went hot /cold but never ice cold when aircon switched on. Could hear engine tone change when ECO button pushed. Car in bits again now due to cam cover gasket leak. As a precaution changing HBV & doing Breathers & plug leads to avoid yet another strip down job.
Prior to stripping could not notice change in engine tone when ECO button pressed. Basically seems to have lost pressure due to a leak I think. Will get it teseted & recharged once I have managed to pay for this lot of repairs.

Last year on one occasion when we actually had some hot weather I was aware that my A/C wasn't getting cold. When you swtiched it on & off or used the ECO button you got a corresponding rise or fall of engine revs which suggested that the compressor was clutching in & out. However when I watched the compressor nothing was happening. My problem was electrical. Don't let rev changes fool you into thinking the A/C is working. The revs are obvioulsy not controlled by the gas pressure in the system like it is in a Carlton or Senator.
