Oil cooler replacement on a v6 deisel?
« on: 18 July 2007, 20:50:46 »

Evenin every body, I need to know if replacing the oil cooler on a deisel is the same as petrol? Also the oil cooler has been bypassed, I don't know how and where until I have seen the car. My questions are;

What parts are needed for the replacement of the oil cooler?
Are there any specialist tools required?
And how long will it take? Bearing in mind I will only be able to do it when I finish work.

There was no V6 diesel Omega.  If you mean the crappy BMW straight 6 one, the oil cooler is just down under headlight, passenger side.  Never done it, but cant see any dramas in changing it,

There are two unions connecting the pipes to the cooler. I think they are around 24mm. If you need to change the pipes from the engine they changed the design slightly on the mini facelift. When I had an early TD one of the pipes must have broken or rotted through as someone had joined them with hose which burst :-[ I tried a few times to re-join it with hose etc but kept blowing off, in the end I took the pipe off and welded it. Never had a problem since!

The V6 diesel was only fitted to the models described which is a pity, because its a bloody fantastic engine capable of well over 200Bhp with stacks of torque.......and would have suited the Omega VERY well.

Ok guy's we seem to be drifting from the main subject here slightly. The car is a facelift omega and he told me that it was a v6 deisel, but having said that he not clued up on Omega's thats why he has asked me to sort out. Unfortunately other people have looked at the car and don't have a clue what they are doing so I have too sort out other peoples cockups. Anyway apart from that if it is a deisel and its is a straight 6 then you are all saying that it is even easier to rectify and sort out? Great if it is less work for me but could be fiddly, but I can have ago. (Never done one before so fingers crossed eh)

Is it the BMW straight 6 2.5TD, or the Vauxhall 4 cylinder 2.2DTi?  If BMW straight 6, my comments at top of thread apply.

Ok, I have found out that the first car I will be working on is a 2.2dti. Not sure what needs doing so I will post it on here as soon as the car has arrives. All I know at the moment is the cooling system needs flushing through but as said thats all I know so I will keep you all posted as I am sure I will need the help. The next car will be the 2.5 v6 Petrol for the oil cooler, that I gather is under the plenum and everything else so I will need help with that. The third car will be the 2.6 v6 petrol, again not sure what needs doing to that one either. So all watch this thread closely.
