Fault code erasing(EML still lights)
« on: 10 August 2007, 15:40:55 »

I have changed my cam sensor on my 2.0 and all seems well. The question is can the fault code be erased by a means other than an external Tech1/2 or similar????

As The Boy says it should disappear, certainly after several starts of the car

No, i still have the trouble starting it when been used and then left for a couple of hours or so. It just cranks, then catches but with EML lit. I have to try this a few times then eventually it will start ok and no EML.
So fault still persists and is showing as cam sensor which i have just replaced >:(

i believe the problems were mainly with old connector and being prone to spikes, the new connector is supposed to be spike free more reliable. said to get genuine gm sensor at first dint i! i tried 2 non genuine ones. wiithout modded sensor.

It is a Genuine GM one ;) It was also of the modded type originally on there as well ( loom already spliced )
There is no throttle limiting once i can get it started with no EML showing.

check there are no shorts on original splice. also could be crank sensor heard that also causes limiting. sensor could be faulty <slim chance> or timing could be slighty out. that was suggested to me when mine dint originally work.

Cam timing is spot on. My engine revs are not limitimg, i can go up to 6k if i wish.
All i can think is i might try and splice in further down the cable, could be tricky as its passing down the alternater, and i don't really want to be stripping much at the moment with my back and leg problems ::)

the wiring for the sensor does run past the alternator but, if you look at the wiring loom on the left hand side of the engine as you look from front of car. if you take that cover off then you will be able to see the wiring for the sensor come in from the bottom. try splicing into cable from there. if you want to reset the ecu disconnect the battery for an hour, just make sure you have the radio codes. that'll clear all codes so you'llknow for deffinate then if still a problem!

Doubt it, certainly the Motronics are stored in NV memory, thing the Simtecs are as well...
