Unleaded Vs LPG

Hi, :y

Having just bought a dual fuel Omega I would be very interested to hear what the members running ther Miggy on LPG are getting mpg wise compared to unleaded.

I've read that economy on LPG is anything from 66-85% of that on unleaded.

Car is indicating 27mpg but doesn't seem to differ between the two!!

Your thoughts please :y

Hi, i don't think that the LPG is measured by the ECU, only the petrol line has a sensor on it. If I am wrong I am sure one of the more knowlegable gurus will put you right.

Petrol consumption isn't actually measured either. It's difficult to do so because the return line is always returning fuel to the tank so to actually measure petrol flow you'd need to subtract flow in the return line from flow in the "flow" line.

The MID figures are based on a signal from the ECU that indicates the fuel demand from the engine and a signal from the TC/ABS that indicates road speed. So it's based on what the ECU thinks it's supplying through the injectors. On a dual fuel car the main ECU doesn't actually know it's not supplying petrol to the engine and that a separate ECU is feeding it with gas, so this explains why the figures don't change.

One of the dual fuel gurus will be along soon to talk about their fuel consumption, I'm sure.

Yep, on my 2.0 i got about 10% less MPG, but given the cost compared with petrol it usually works out to be 50% less cost.  :)

If i get my finger out before the next millenium i might complate my LPG install and start saving 50% too.

Kevin Wood is correct in what he says, so MPG will be inaccurate for LPG - you'll need to work it out the old fashioned way.

Long before I had LPG, I got into the habit of zeroing the mileometer when I filled up with petrol.

Now I zero the mechanical mileometer when I fill up on LPG and the MID digital "distance travelled" when I fill up with petrol

I have been getting about 17 MPG on LPG @ 0.36 Ltr

Right I have Just Done a 500 Mile Round Trip On LPG and it cost me £36 at 42.9p a litre and my Trip computer said i did 26MPG which is totaly wrong I never listen to the Trip Computer as there is no way it can caculate the amount i use

About 16 mpg over two weeks including towing.

About 10% worse on gas than petrol

 :) opened a direct billing account at James Lister Gases, Wednesbury. (24 hr access to a self service pump)

My alternate cheapeast supplier is Carvers Building Suppies at Wolverhampton town centre, which may be around 38-40p

Both are local to my work  :)

How did you get to hear that those suppliers do those deals if you open an account?  I'd like to do that around here but i don't know of any gas suppliers...?

Do i just look in the Yellow pages?

I found Carvers due to work conections and Listers advetised LPG bottle and autogas.

Google for LPG suppliers in general not specifically autogas, use LPG sites to search for suppliers local not nationwide.

also if you live in the sticks, find a farmer who uses LPG in agricultural vehicle as they do not pay road duty, you may get it cheaper off one of them.

I also know that GO-LPG (gas conversion guy) sells LPG as he has a tank. (very good on Jags)

I've been on gas for nearly 5 years and only brought gas from a forcourt a few of dozen times

LPG generally about 10% less economical at worst, with an SGI

Expect at least 500 miles from £35
