Possible Head Gasket Failure?
« on: 11 September 2007, 14:56:10 »

I do about 100 miles a day in my 2.0L W reg, and have been losing 2-3 litres of coolant a day. There does not appear to be a leak anywhere, other than a slight discharge from the exapnsion tank cap. The expansion tank seems to have a build up of pressure. I was thinking this must be a HG failure, but I do not have the clouds of white smoke that others have mentioned.

Any others possible causes?

Thanks.

You should be able to spot that kind of leakage on your drive.

Check your carpets aren't wet in case you have a leak from the
heater matrix or associated pipes.

Run the engine and try various combinations of heater on full/ off
and air conditioning on and off to see if you can reproduce the
leak.

Another poster had exactly the same problem and found it
pouring out of the HBV on the back of the engine when he put
the air con on.
