Rite got given the car which i fort was a result, mate said just needs oil cooler and after looking on this site fort he was rite, changed oil cooler, header tank, cap, need to do thermostat, now have problem with TC light coming on and auto gearbox msg saying on dash, this didnt happen b4, ( could i have knocked something?)  sport mode on gearshift worked now only works now n then, like had car in s mode drove down road n jumped out, the car has been standing 4 2 months n batt is flat, have to jump, is this norm or not?

Just so I get it right - you are OK with engine (oil cooler and header tank & cap changed, stat to be done next, etc) - but you only problem at the moment is the auto gearbox issue? If so, then yes a fully charged battery will be a good starting point (after the paperclip test) and yes the electronics can go funny with a partially-charged battery. And yes, if the car is left standing for two months you could get the battery drained, especially if it was a bit weak to begin with. Hope this helps...

Also, as said above, the autobox problem could be a result of an engine problem (e.g. disconnected sensor etc), in which case the engine problem will show-up as a fault code. But if you really have an autobox problem, then you will need to read the autobox ECU, and this required Tech2.

And if indeed confirmed as autobox problem, then change ATF and filter first....

If it's been sat for a little while, i'd be tempted to change the fluids and probably a new battery as mentioned. People do say that a change of gearbox oil can work wonders.

As much detail as you can give with regard to the problems is the best way and hope you get it sorted  :y
