Code 19 - Crank Sensor
« on: 17 September 2007, 13:15:35 »

Okay the estate refuses under any circumstances to start - so i obviously have total failure, luckily its at home and i have the rest of the fleet to use.

Am i safe in buying the below replacement - i know theres two different ones - car in question is 1998 2.5 cd manual. Or do i need to remove the old one first to check connections.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150096919052&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX_Stores&refitem=150161485252&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget

Also - would there be any greater chance in starting via jump start or anyone got any tips in getting it started as ideally i want it off the road and into the workshop for changeover.

Pop the scuttle cover off and check the connector shape to make sure its the right one....I suspetc it will be the oval one on that age.

Easy enough to do where it is.

its in a real problem area as its half on the kerb.....right where i need to be underneath it to undo the torx...

still i`ll just stick it in gear and "kangeroo" it back and forward untill its sitting better ;)

I suspect that a few more volts from a jump start may get it going just to get it off the road.

Unlikely if its crank sensor failure....  ....that won't be doing anywhere under its own steam until replaced...

Yep, it's the oval one. That plug will probably be OK.

You'll have it changed in 10 minutes :y

You already know this - but route the cable away from any sources of heat!

Job done and car started on the button, not overly happy with the route of the cable....will be revisiting it today..

Main thing was to get it started and into garage..and thats done.

You were wrong James on time...13minutes ;D

Its going and its off the road again so you can sort it properly - thats all that counts :y

May this be a timely reminder to all to go and paperclip your V6s - 19 codes do NOT bring on EML in the intermittent stages.

So, all 2.5/3.0 owners, paperclip it tomorrow, and if you get a 19, buy a new crank sensor!
