Cooling Upgrade
« on: 03 October 2007, 08:24:14 »

Heard somewhere that the V6's downfall is the cooling when trying to turbocharge or supercharge.

After speaking to omegatoy i am going to turbocharge it i think. How could i upgrade the cooling to cope with a turbo's extra demand on the engine?

It is going to have an intercooler and hopefully have 350bhp+

if you are looking at trying to produce that sort of power then you are going to have to have a custom made rad to cope with the cooling, and the possibility of doing some cutting in order to get it to fit....

Good luck, will be interesting to see this as a WIP

I remember MarkDTM telling me that cooling around the back cylinders is the weak point so internal engine modifications are required to promote a bit more coolant flow. IIRC, this involved removing the oil cooler from the valley in favour of an external oil to air cooler, then taking an additional coolant hose from a plate where the oil cooler was instead of the connection at the rear of the block.

That may not be an accurate or complete description but it certainly involved this type of modification, required over 250BHP IIRC.
