Best way to remove the MID
« on: 16 October 2007, 17:26:54 »

ive looked at the haynes manual and it says i need to take the steering wheel off!
Is there any way you can get the steering cowling off without this.

All i want to do is remove the mid

cheers

Never had the MID out but if its just to remove the cowlings, simply turn the wheel one way then the other to expose the 'hidden' screws.  The others are beneath the cowling and easy to get.  Covers slip out with a bit of care....

Yes, 3 screws underneather cowl, turn wheel 90 degrees, undo the hidden screw on front of cowl. Turn 90 degrees other way and do likewise. Cowl comes off

Undo the screws TOP AND BOTTOM of thre cowling, turn the steering wheel to remove the two self tappers with covers on them, lift the top cowling off. Remove the centre air vent and undo the screws holding the instument panal and ease the clocks forward enough to get your hand behind to disconnect the plug on the mid and the clocks. Pull the clocks forward and take the clocks out towards the centre of the car. :y

Log onto microsoft.com, search for xp powertoys.  Look for resizer - download & install.  Right click picture file(s) in xplorer & you will see a "resize picture" option - left click & set size u want.

A quick tip, the pic resize tool is already built into xp. Right click your pic, choose send to then mail recipient.
Windows asks you if you want to resize (same as the resize tool) say yes and choose 640x480 or whatever and it brings up a new email with the pics attached and resized. Just copy and paste them from the email window to a new folder.

Discard the new email and that's it! Useful if you're on someone else's PC and can't be arsed to download the stand alone tool.  :y
