Secondary Air Pump?
« on: 01 November 2007, 13:53:04 »

Hi

I've developed a strange fault, when the car is cold or has not been started for a small period of time the idle revs oscillate and all the dash lights dim at the bottom of the oscillation. After a small period of time (depends when the car was last started) it all stops and revs are fine

I cannot hear the secondary air pump so my guess is that its fooked and is causing the strange behaviour so I've disconnected it.

Can anyone confirm that this is the right thing to do?

Cheers!

Just read this thread, the OP had exactly the same problem and his was the secondary air pump , read it here

Looks like the secondary air pump draws a lot of current when it fails....

It draws a lot of current when its not failed so will use even more when it has.

Its worth trying to see if it is the cause of the power drain.

Hi Mark.

Yep its sorted, just unplugged it and its all good! Will get some blanks and sort the job out proper soon (after I get through the list of MOT failures - exhaust, brake lines)

All the best
