Lamda sensor
« on: 09 November 2007, 19:52:17 »

A recent diagnostic test has shown a faulty lamda sensor on my 2.2 petrol auto, 52 plate. I haven't had a quote yet for replacing the sensor but I would like to know what the cost is likely to be. Also, the auto electrical garage that carried out the test have told me that it will help if the ECU software is upgraded. Is this necessary on a vehicle that has been out of production since 2003?. Anyone any experience of this please?

I have an 03 2.2 and joined this forum a year ago with the same fault diagnosis.

I was told correctly, that it was more likely to be an air leak of some sort as the lambda sensor is simply reporting the fault - not causing it.

My first suggestion is to clean the breathers out, AA wrote me a great how2 that you can find in the Manintanence Guide and tighten all the hoses well when you reconnect the pipes.

The lambda sensors can fail and iirc they are about £60 - but I may be wrong.

In case you're wondering, my turned out to be a faulty MAF sensor, £50 ebay, and has been ok since, but engine much better with the clean breathers and oil change every 3000 miles since.

Thanks for the information, I will check the breather pipes first before replacing the Lamda sensor
