At 67000 miles something catastrophic would have to have happened to the engine for it to be an internal problem. That engine is barely run in and they want to fit a reconditioned one?

I would get trading standards involved and maybe get an independant inspection made on the car and the work they have carried out as it sounds like they have been blundering about in the dark, and, are presumably hoping to present you with a huge bill for their efforts.

ben, have they got a gen vx tech 2 , if not then i doubt that they would be able to diagnois fuel probs to one cylinder without it. 67000 is barely run in

Back in 2002, I had a 3.0 V6 on a M plate.

Stealers got over £1k from me pis5ing about here and there trying to identify the mis-fire.
They assured me that they'd done everything INCLUDING the leads.

As I understood it, they didn't change the leads but merely checked them, one by one - eliminating them as the problem.

Now, at £1k, I had a huge 'chat' with the service manager - explaining that the fault was going to be corrected without further expense from my pocket.

They replaced the leads and problem gone!  I'm no expert in cars, just in advising that Stealers are crap too!  I hope your solution is as easy now you're somewhere where that I was.  Good luck!!

Sounds a bit like a  fault I had ... pulled my hair out a million times.... turned out to be the HT leads on the wrong plugs...No really it is easily done as the dispack numbering doesn't run in order all the way through ... so you put the leads on (and it is difficulkt to see the numbering when the dispack is in position) think you have got it right and assume that it goes 135 246 on the dispak... it doesn't... eventually it blew the CAT,... might be wrorth checking with a torch

Just checked the Dispak ... it goes 135 462 ....easy to get caught out

Having said all that and re - reading the thread ... For me, it is a nailed on dispak failure ... are you sure they changed it?......did they give you the old part ..did you see them change it?.........

When mine went it was exactly as you said ... going down the road and just started running lumpy...

My advice  - make sure they have changed it and if they have,  the old problem ( the dead dispak ) is now gone so it can only be the leads in the wrong order...cos it is V6 it fooled me I thought the misfire would be more pronounced but it was just lumpy.....

Yes Definately get all the leads off and put them back one at a time ....

You cant detect fueling on this engine with Tech2.....you can only see an open circuit or short circuit injector and when its open circuit this has always been down to an idiot removing the injector connectors to extract the inlet and not re-fitting them properly in my experience.

Is the fault light on?

If not, it must be ignition.

As said, it needs the leads cehcking adn they must be connected to the correct turrets on the dis pack.

If they were any good, they would have used the diag tool to test the leads using a test plug.....

with tech2 you can cut cylinders out 1 at a time, it turns off the injectors for a couple of seconds. can then easily see if its just 1 cylinder gone down or if leads crossed over probably 2
