Instrument panel lights seem dim.
« on: 14 November 2007, 20:20:11 »

The panel illumination lights on my 2001 facelift 2.6l estate are much dimmer on their 'highest' setting, compared to my 2.0l, on which they are quite white when the dimmer is fully up. (I like them this way). The 2.6 dimmer control is working fine but at its highest setting all the lamps which it controls are only 'yellow'.
They are all readable OK, but I'm wondering whether this is a deliberate design feature on the facelift models. There isn't any obvious change in intensity at different engine speeds.
Is it something I will have to live with? Would LED lights make a worthwhile difference?
Hope someone can advise.
Cheers,
Bill

Could be a faulty dimmer
Could be the bulbs have had a hard life, could try replacing them

LED's may be too bright next

Thanks Jimbob.
I presume I should be able to get 'white' lights, then?
Is there any reason why I shouldn't exchange the switches between the two vehicles, ie. pre-facelift and facelift, to check the performance of the 2.6 dimmer?

Cunning plan, swap away, I dont know if there is any difference that will matter if one has HID's and one doesnt  :-?
ie one has headlight level adjustment

easy enough to swap (normally) credit card or similar in each side to depress the clips, then slide it out.

I have had one of these switches out in the past, after several hours trial and error, so hopefully that experience will 'oil the wheels' this time.
I'll have a go at the weekend and post the results.
Thanks again.

Yeah! But age is against me. I had my snip 20 odd years ago.   ;D
