MV6 3.0 1999 couple of questions
« on: 27 November 2007, 10:04:43 »

Hi, a couple of questions if I may.
  • Has the car got self levelling rear suspension, if it was an option how can I tell if I've got it? (I've got the estate)
  • The lights, which I believe are meant to auto adjust, are too low. Does anyone know how I can adjust this?
Thanks for your help.

im no expert but im guessing that it would have some form of extra pipes running to the shocks on the rear, also normally there would be a switch to dc it if you needed to tow the vehicle, iirc??

with regards to the lights you will either have the range adjustemnt wheel on the headlight controller, or will be done off of a sensor on the nearside fron and i believe offside rear??

just have a check that the little plastic arm hasnt come off of the lever sensor thingy.

other than that sit the car in front of a wall and add weight to the nearside front, you should see the lights moving, albeit quickly.

if they do but still seem low i cant help as my knowledge is a little low on these cars "for now"

cheers

The dampers have air pipes going into them for self levelling. On the saloon they are on the outside so you can see them by looking through the wheel arches. Not sure if the estate is the same. There is a pump that supplies air to the dampers to raise them. They are controlled by a sensor on the rear axle.

HID lights are self-levelling, but there is a baseline adjustment that can be made by turning screws on the lights themselves. I had to have mine adjusted as they were far too low when I bought the car. First check the levelling function is working though, you can add some weight to the boot and the lights should adjust down so they're still at roughly the same height. To get the manual adjustment done you're probably best taking it somewhere who has the right equipment to monitor the beam position.
