So, the cam cover gaskets are new, the breathers cleaned, new plugs, new leads and a new coil pack.

And still it sounds and runs like an albanian tractor

Any ideas???

Plugs leads crossed? Especially 4 and 6 - very common.

Any fault codes logged?

Cam timing OK?

Cylinder compressions OK?

Compressions ok.

No faults showing at all.

Leads checked by main dealer (who put new plugs in again, just in case!) who did the coil and plugs the first time under AA breakdown cover.

I know the next logical step is to check timing  - but I thought I'd ask before such an expensive diagnostic!!! AA may not pay for diag's if the fault is something not covered by their breakdown repair insurance.  Now the dealer and the AA are passing it to and fro and I just know who is gonna end up with a big bill!!

Sorry All

Work has taken me away from a PC for a few days

After a huge argument with a Vauxhall Main Dealer, they have now looked at the timing which was slightly off according to them. They fixed it for free as I accused them of selling me an unecessary coil pack before

 Now it appears that the nearside Cat has gone which, as well as being very noisy, is apparently the cause of the rough running now (it's not as bad as it was).

Anyone believe that???

So to recap -

New plugs, leads and coil pack - all rechecked by main dealer. Plugs replaced again just in case. Timing belt 'slip' put right by main dealer. New Nearside Cat.  Vacuum test/compression test shows no problems.  No fault codes.  No engine light.

STILL MISSING BADLY ON NEARSIDE (V6 3.0)

Cany anyone suggest anything???

What are the exact compression readings?

Can you be sure fuel is getting to each cylinder?

I don't know the readings exactly - they were done by the dealer - I will try to find out

If they've replaced the cat without curing the misfire that probably killed the old one words fail me...

If that was the case, then there must be unburnt fuel in the cylinder... so it's either lacking a spark, or compression!

Remember, there is only so many things that can cause a misfire.

Engine requires air, fuel, and spark on compression. So, if you have fuel, spark, and compression in 6 cylinders - it will run on 6 cylinders!
