Hi!
Have not been able to find an answer to my problem in any topics so far. My 2.5 has been leaking coolant - about 3 litres over the last 3000 miles. Looked from underneath the car today and was able to find coolant on bell housing and on the centre tie rod. But its probably not caused by HBV, as it is on the opposite side of the engine. I could see traces of coolant above the oil filter, towards the back of the engine. It goes all the way up to the exhaust manifold above some sort of heat shield, but could not see anything higher than that. You can’t find anything when looking from above the engine. Any ideas? Thanks!

possibly coming from oil cooler cover plate, but you would need to strip down to visibly check

Was secretly hopping I would not have to do that. Can it be that the leakage occures inside the V, while it manifests itself on the outside, if you understand what I mean? How does the coolant get itself practicly on the point where exhaust manifold meets the engine?

OK! I think I got it! THERMOSTAT!!! Thanks Theboy! From my Haynes manual it looks like it is somewhere there, probably a bit more to the front, but close enough to be likely cose. Can anyone give me any further advices what exactly I should be looking for? Anyone had a similar problem?

You need to inpspect the valley for signs of leaks, both the oil cooler plate and the stat are in the valley and when they leak the coolant has to go somewhere.....when hot it evaporates (these leaks tend to be small so you dont get steam as such appearing) or when cold as the unit cools down (coolant will still be under pressure) it runs out the back of the V.

Really not as difficult as it sounds, think there maybe a How To in the maintence section

Actualy I am more concearned with the fact that it takes time. And also I will most likely have to do it twice - once in order to find where the leak comes from, than will need to source the part and than second time to fit the part.

It took me round an hour to take off the plenum and inlet manifolds. You should then see if there is water around the oil cooler plate, there are a few o rings that you should change to on the coolant bridge too, whilst your there, they are only pence anyway.
I would get up early one morning and strip it, find where the leak is coming from then go to the Vauxhall Dealers to get your parts.. should have it all back together within the day then
