Hose From HBV Replacement
« on: 06 February 2008, 16:12:28 »

Hi Folks,

The hose from the single port side of the HBV has blown and is leaking llike a booger! Only discovered this after changing the HBV typically enough. >:( (Thanks for the guide chaps, excellent). :y

Cannot reach the hose clip on the engine side of the hose at all, tried long nose pliers, mole grips etc. but to no avail.

Is there a tool that makes this feat possible, or any special methods?

Thanks in advance for your help

if you are referring to the spring type clips, i have used a set of mole grips in the past with a lot of sucsess, the only issue arises when there is a lack of space.

to do this properly/easily you really need to take the plenuim off and possibly even the middle section of the inlet manifold

Thanks for the advice folks.

Have finally managed it after lying full lenghth across the engine :y and performing some very unorthodox gymastics! The swear box is now full to capacity, and even the cat wont come near me!

Thanks Dazzler, yes did have the scuttle panel removed, but it's a complete swine to get at without dismantling half the engine!

Just about managed to get a pair of mole grips on the clip.

Is there any reason I cannot replace this clip with a jubilee clip?

I brought this off of eBay for when I replace the HBV later this week.
I offered him £20 and he accepted.

I hope you have more success with this than I did. It's fine on the small clips, header tank size, but when you come to the big ones!

The first thing that happened to mine was the nipple pulling off the cable at handle end. I soldered that back on, but I find it just does not have the power to squeeze the larger clips.

Useful, but not the whole answer.

Don't use jubilees on plastic components, eg rad, as its too easy to crack plastic tube (either through overtightening, or through heat expansion)

I think this is a metal inlet/outlet from the back of the engine to the single port of the HBV. Will that be ok with a jubilee?

Thanks Bruce.

Managed the HBV ok with mole grips, and these pliers look like they would do the job on the smaller cliips, unfortunateley I have to do this tommorow, so no time to wait.

Appreciate the advice though, and might well be useful for those considering the HBV scenario.   :y

I know exactly what you mean!  I needed to remove the inlet bridge also as i had the LPG water supply to work on too.  Swearbox was filled three times over, even more so when i forgot to remove the tissues from the inlet manifold...  :(

Thankfully all is ok now  :y
