headlamp aim
« on: 24 February 2008, 10:49:54 »

I notice in the drivers handbook you can change the aim of the headlights for driving on the continent. (facelift model). Has anybody done this, it looks quite easy in the book but is it really?

Yes it works ok; but it doesn`t quite give the same dipped light-spread as they do when set for U.K driving.....Gendarmerie do have a 'blitz' once in a while and will check for switched-over or 'stickered' headlamps on British reg. cars; so `best to make sure it`s done (and you also have the mandatory spare-lamps/H.V-vest/extinguisher and triangle) lest you get an on the spot fine.  ;)

Depends on how big your hands are, I struggle to get my hand in to change the levers over. It says in the hand book, but one lever is up & t'other is down - can't remember which way. They don't actually change to LHD dip, they just cut off the up sweep of the RHD dip. If you drive up to a wall/garage door with your dip beam on you'll see \___ \___

Well i've just been out and had a go and for a small bloke I sure have big hands......
Somebody has been in there before 'cos the levers were both up, so I was getting this,   ___  \___
Got it sussed now though. Just in case anyone needs to know, the drivers side should be up and the passenger side should be down. Cheers for the replies.

Drivers side  ...  UP
                                             Continental driving
Passenger side  ...   DOWN

..........................................................................

Drivers side  ...  DOWN
                                             UK driving
Passenger side  ...  UP

...........................................................................

Is this correct ? or should they both be set to the UP or DOWN position ?

I'm just going to check mine but i'm all confussed at the moment

The way I read it is,

Drivers side up
                                 UK driving
Passenger side down

Drivers side down
                               Continental driving
Passenger side up

I could be totally wrong though :-/

If I'm understanding the discussion correctly, then passenger side should be down for UK driving (since UK driving is on the left side), so the light don't hit the oncomming traffic in the face, and then for continental driving, it should be the other way round since they drive on the right side.

I think?
