if you do short trips, it is normal.

Check the dipstick as well...if thats clear nothing to worry about.

Some makes of oil are more prone to this than others...

Vauxhall's own is particularly good at not being mayo'y

It'd be worth making sure the breathers are kept clear, and giving it regular oil changes if it's seeing lots of short trips.  :y

... or spank it up and down the motorway private test track every so often.

do as kev wood says, give it a good run every so often!

i'm a postman (when my feet aren't broke) and i do a high amount of short trips, so at least twice a week i'll take it out for an hour or so and throw it down a carriage way or motorway

After a good run down the motorway or similar at a good speed check the filler cap again and if all is well the mayo should have magically disappeared :y

Here is a trick I learnt years ago it worked on the viva engine :-
Get some felt about 5mm thick cut it to size and wrap it round the filler neck and secure it with a couple of cable ties this should help stop the mayo forming, the reason it forms is because the filler cools down quicker than the rest of the engine which causes condensation  that mixes with the oil result mayo.
