Recon Auto box tips
« on: 28 February 2008, 20:35:17 »

Following my post last week it seems I got a bit tucked up at the auction and what appeared a lovely clean meggy needs a new box.
Being a tad adverse to paying Vauxhalls price (that would more than triple what i paid for the car), any tips on decent suppliers of recon boxes?
Its a 98 2.0 auto if that helps.
Prices i've had off the net so far range from 235-450 inc delivery.
I can fit it myself (with help from a mech mate) so just a decent source for parts.

All help v much appreciated.

one tip is don't go for a box which has been laying around for a while no matter how cheap.

The autoboxs don't being stored and the internals tend to gum up and by the time they have be run up again the internals will be knackered

My advice would be to source a known good working second hand box, fit the replacement thrust washer as per Sassanachs Maintenance guide, change the filter and fit followed by a fill with nice fresh Titan Dex III
