Mystery item
« on: 12 March 2008, 19:15:44 »

Been scratching around under the car today (2.5td) and under the very front of the offside front wing is, I think, some kind of radiator. It is located in front of the wheel and is what the air intake in the bumper feeds. Anyone know what it is ? Intercooler maybe ?
Ah, just thought about this again  ::) auto gearbox oil cooler ?
Thanks

Now if it were an intercooler, could it block up and restrict airflow to the inlet ?
I'm not that good with forced induction..... ;D

Ok ta, so the air is drawn in from the grille area then it goes the filter then the turbo, through intercooler and into inlet manifold ?
I can't even see the inlet manifold let alone the pipework !!

Correct, It travels from the air filter (large box front left of engine bay), through the MAF (96 ish on) down to the turbo (bottom of engine bay, left of block) then back to the intercooler in the drivers side wing, up over the front of the engine )black plastic lump with turbo etc written on it) and into the over size inlet manifold (right side of engine)

Just one of my 'thoughts';
Diesel cars sometimes have diesel fueled cabin aux-heaters.....`might that be a possible connection?  :-/
