Well guys and girls had me cambelt, rocker covers and a new alternator (alternator was used) fitted, but the MID and dash lights keep flickering but instead of the EML light just flickering (only flashed on once) it now stays on, but it looks like it's try to go out because it is flickering but not going out if you know what I mean. My mechanic said it could be where the cambelt has been changed and the sensor on the timing has been set on the old cambelt position for a long time. The car runs fine though and seems a lot better just the EML light stays on any idea's :-?

Haven't tried putting it into a fault code reader yet mate.

Sounds like the alternator has a problem if dash lights flickering.......or was it changed because you had this problem before?

EML may be on coz an ecu is complaining about under/over voltage.

Id check the voltage across the battery at idle and at 2000rpm to see what is going on. It shouldnt be higher than 14.2v revving it.

Voltage was fine mate but i'm wondering if it is another alternator problem

Well started it this morning and had trouble to keep it going to be honest, it was fine once it had started but it seems jerky, do you think he could've put an air hose/ or pipe on the wrong way :-?

Flickering lights must be due to supply voltage fluctuation. Either the alternator was a bad one or you've got a loose connection (are the battery terminals getting hot while it's running?).

The engine management light is either related to poor supply voltage or your mechanic has forgotten to reconenct something or trapped a cable. Do a paperclip test and post up any codes you have.

Don't buy the rubbish about cam belt positions. Everything should be timed up exactly the same if the cam belt has been changed properly. Only difference is that the rubber is newer and the ECU won't know that!

He seemed vague to where the, small vaccum pipes went from the front of the car to the inlet manifold (at the back)and also on the black cover that goes over the inlet manifold all the pipes at the back of there he seemed confused about, can anyone be kind enough to take any pictures and show me if he's done it wrong.
I wonder why he had cowboy boots on

Best first step is to paper clip it and find out what the ECU is complaining about. Then we know where to look. Prime candidates are the driver's side knock sensor wire trapped, the IAT and front multiram connectors swapped over or the rear multuiram solenoid not reconnected.

Regarding vac hoses that won't cause an EML unless the air leak is horrendous but they do have to go back on the right way. There's a diagram in the maintenance guides somewhere.

Ditto the breather connections to the plenum. The two outside connections go to the large breather from the block which splits into 2 smaller hoses behind the plenum. Of the two smaller breathers between these, the driver's side one goes to the smaller block breather and the passenger side one goes to the charcoal canister purge valve (from memory) again, there is a breather cleaning maintenance guide with the definitive info. It is important how the 2 smaller ones go back as they have different sized vents into the plenum.

I fixed it, there is about an inch pipe that goes into the passenger side of the inlet manifold, there is an electrical connector on it and the so called mechanic left it off he'll get an earful for this Thanks for the help guys top notch

Not even one of the "difficult to spot" connectors either.

  Thats what i thought when i saw it, spotted it almost straight away it was just hanging down bloody pr*ck
