Doom car :(
« on: 26 April 2008, 21:48:11 »

Ok, where to start. Well recently I got myself a 1997 omega Elite 3.0 v6, it's had a somewhat strange LPG install, Very much a home jobby.

Anyway, from day one it's been sounding somewhat rough. And it can't idle right to save it's life. In fact it doesn't run smooth until after 75mph. And I've done a few things to try get the damn thing to run smooth again. Firstly I found oil in the sparks so I took the cam covers of, resealed it and blew like only superman could blow through the breathers to clear any crap out. And charged the spark plugs.

But still it ran like only 5 cylinders were firing. So, I go to read the fault codes the engine is throwing up and the EGR and o2 sensors are throwing up low voltage errors. And the knock error which I'm guessing is the engine misfire. So more problems then I though, But I'm pretty sure the o2 and EGR errors wouldn't cause the misfire, so I took the ht leads out.

Right, whoever put these leads in should be shot, They were in the wrong order, all over the damn place. And today I put them on the right order and the engine now runs about 50% better, and the cylinder that wasn't firing is now working.

BUT, it still runs rough on idle, and it still has no power at low revs. Take a million years to pull of the mark. I've also notice that the engine that wasn't firing makes this strange suction noise as it's running. I have no idea what to do next, And I'm a bit over my head on this. That and the fact I hate taking that damn air intake off to get to anything lol

Any ideas anyone? I really don't want to give up on this car lol

The strange 'suction' noise sounds like an air leak.

Is the EML lit? If not then the codes could be old codes and really need clearing to see if any come back.

Yeah the EML is lit. And I've just update my profile with my location :)

Also I did think It may be an air leak, But I resealed the strange air intake with instant gasket. Not that it means it's sealed lol

Right, if EML is lit then there is something definitely amiss.

O2 sensors could be correct and the mixture is incorrect due to an airleak. Any possibility of a photo or description of this 'air intake'?
