Door Pins --  help & info needed
« on: 18 May 2008, 19:32:58 »

Have got the chance of a full set of replacement doors in correct colour.

Have looked at the pins on my 98' elite. How do they come out?

Is it - just prise off the black cap below and the gently drift the pins upwards while supporting the door on something suitable ( couple of small trolley jacks maybe?

I understand that the electrical loom connector has to be un done before door can be removed - but are there any more little secrets that need addressing?

Also anyone changed locks - is that a tricky one? ::) ::)

Any response would be helpful --- regards, Al :y :y

 .....

Door pins go towards each other ie top pin goes down & the bottom pin goes up. You'll see how they go when you've removed the plastic covers on the ends as there's a flare on one end.

Just pull the plastic bits off. They're just for looks, ;)  well maybe to hold a bit of grease around the pin.

I moved mine the  wrong way firts by 1/8" just to move them, but I'd made a tool up to get them out utilising the flare. I heated & flattened the end of a length of silver steel & them gound a slot in it just wide & deep enough to go round the pin, & then knocked 10 colours of sh1t out the side of the bar judiciously tapped the side of the bar untill the pins came out.  ;) There are hinge pin tools available from motorfactors too though.

Great JOY on this little problem. :y :y :y

Paid a visit to little brothers Home Workshop/garage/ toolstore. Seems he has a tool for anything! ;D ;D ;D

Asked him about removing hinge pins . He has a set of HP removers with like a slide hammer thingy. Looks a doddle with this bit of kit.

Thank for the advice evereyone :y :y :y

regards,  Big Al ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
