Extra water pump costs
« on: 01 June 2008, 10:55:54 »

I'm hearing from OOF members that when changing cambelt water pump is easily accessible.

Can anyone tell me roughly how much extra I would pay at a main Vauxhall dealer to have it done at the same time. How much is  a new water pump, and how much labour would it need to fit it.

PS Labour is £65 per hour

How often should water pumps need replacing? The car will be 7 years old in December and has done 90,000 miles

Water pump is £40+vat retail and £22+vat trade club. They should only charge you about 20 mins labour which is there minimum charge ;)

Where are you based?

Are you aware that you'll probably (almost definitely) get a better job done by a certain member on here and he'll even come to you for the additional fuel costs.

That is what I am doing. Before I 'volunteer' his services, I'll check that he doesn't mind me giving his name out.

Personally speaking I would rather it be done by an extremely experienced and trusted Omega enthusiast/specialist than by a Vauxhall dealer, unless it is the dealer stamp you're after.

yeah, steer clear from the dealership, and garages in general. I had my waterpump done yesturday with the cam belt.

I was done by member of the forum  ;) who, in my opinion is  :) :) :) :) :) :) superb at what he does. My whole engine was in a pickle due to garage mechanic not having a clue what they were doing.

Yes I would have liked to use the member of the OOF, but mine is so far past its service date, that it needed doing very very quickly. Be just my luck it went bang before we could arrange something.

Trust me it is worht the wait. I am 15,000 miles over, so I have probably more concern than you. I spoke to him and we are currently arranging next weekend. This was a delay of about 10 days.

I've just come off the phone from speaking to "JamesV6CDX" who is the man we're talking about here.

He'd be more than happy to do your car for you and says to drop him a PM.

He's coming to mine this Sunday and hs price is extremely reasonable + travelling costs.

He's going to be doing the cam-belt, aux-belt, water pump, cam cover gaskets, breathers and anything else he comes across that is needed on the day.

I really, really cannot stress enough how much you should get in touch with him and let him do the work for you rather than letting a main dealer near it, you will not regret it.

Crikey, I will need a head enlargement to take all this in  ;D

Thanks for the kind words though guys, it's great to get good feedback about the work I'm doing and to hear that your cars are better for it ;)

Optimist, if it's a cambelt and waterpump change you're after, I'm sure I can acommodate an urgent request and do some juggling if needed, dependant on location.

Where abouts are you based?

Cheers
James

Edited - spelling!
