water leak

hi people had a water leak for a while now needs topping up about every to weeks, noticed on the floor today a small patch of water,seems to be coming from above the radiator drain screw cant see exactly where its coming from..any ideas anyone

quick update seems to be coming from the side of radiator black plastic cant see any cracks or splits....(new rad or rad seal????

I'd advise against rad seal... If you just want a temporary fix then use k seal... It's better stuff and less likely to clog smaller waterways.

The best solution is obviously a new rad, when you're sure that's the definite problem. If funds are tight them try chris or markey mark, they are always breaking migs and may have a good 2nd hand one!  :y :y :y

thanx for the advise lazydocker any ideas on a price for new one i know its not gonna be cheap!!!!

Have a look on fleabay, they are often on offer.

Also check your yellow pagesthere are places that recondition them, it may even be a simple repair to them.  Allways worth having a chat.

Mad max, is your car auto or manual g/box as i have a good rad from a 95 elite 3.0 man box that is avalible £30 compleat with rad fan switches. no leaks when removed, can meet 1/2 way city area if needs be during week but not after fri as going away on hol for 2 weeks

Hi,
I had a hairline crack in the plastic radiator header of a Renault Safrane I used to have.
As it was absolute mega bucks for replacement, I took it to a radiator repairer to see if anything could be done.  Fella reckoned they had more problems with the plastic bits of radiators than they ever get with the aluminium matrix.

They vee'ed out the crack, and used some professional only available plastic repair stuff. No idea what it was, but it worked a treat. Cost about £20 Never leaked for the remaining three years I had the car.

Suggest you try Yellow pages Radiator repairs.
