Immobiliser!!!???
« on: 23 June 2008, 23:04:09 »

Can anyone help me? My 2.0 1999 omega Cd will not start or even turn over. I have had the starter checked and it is fine. All electrics seem to work fine. I recently removed a Traffic master control unit and I am wondering if I upset the cars security code. The engine management light flashes when the ignition is on meaning immobiliser fault.  Can I reset the immobiliser myself or do I have to go to a dealer?

Check your key fob ....  the little chip inside it that the immobilisor "talks" to can become loose if the key is dropped, it then moves to a different part of the key and don't work !!

Had this on the old miggy ,  a dab of superglue to fix the transponder (fancy name for the chip) back and it worked fine for years .. :)

Might not be your problem .. but if it is it's a nice cheap fix !!

I thought that it would turn over but not fire for just an immobilisor .. but maybe the 99 V6 was different .. ??

If it wont turn over then the problem is more fundamental than the immobiliser as this only stops spark adn fuel and not engine cranking.

Check for volts at the starter and work back to the ignition switch.
