Fault code 16
« on: 06 July 2008, 11:57:15 »

Hi guys, engine managent light has been going on and off recently but yesterday it came on and would go off for ages.  When it comes on the car has low power but will rev past 4.5k.  The only way to get the light off is to really rev the car in sports mode and all of a sudden it clears...

Checked codes and came up with 12 and 16, 16 is knock sensor one.  Any ideas on what I can do to test this etc as it is working normally today.  I read somewhere about a cable runnin gpast the drivebelt tensioner but I thought that went to the EGR?  I have recently changed the tensioner but I cant see any wires trapped near it.

Cheers,

Richard

Need to check if 16 is bank 1 or 2. If bank 2, often cable damage due to being trapped under cam cover.  Bank 1, sometimes caught by aux belt.

I think misfires can also bring up erroneous codes as well.

According to Marks list 16 is Knock Signal Circuit 1.  So the cable for it possibly runs by the drivebelt?  Where abouts are the knock sensors on the block?  Will I be better to look for the sensore then follow the wire back?  Not had a chance to look from under the car yet as its pouring with rain again!

behind alternator.

often plugs in just above cabletray that runs in front of cambelt cover
