1998 2.0 GLS Auto
« on: 06 July 2008, 09:22:39 »

Hi Guys,

I have owned an "R" reg...2.0 Petrol Auto GLS model for 3 years without any major problem until now.....

I have water leaking from the bottom corner of my radiator. I have tried the Stop Leak and Radweld remedies...however the leak has come back again..... The temperature was always usually contstant at approx 95 and you could hear the fan kick in regularly...however the gauge now hits 100 and i cannot hear the fan at anytime...Is there a last gasp remedy to halting the loss of water such as applying instant metal to the area leaking (which is very small)?

Is it possible that the fan has a relay that may have blown a fuse or could it be something related to loss of pressure in the system.....the expansion tank is always under what appears to be a decent pressure.
Many thanks for your hrlp and advice and i look forward to hearing from you...

Kind regards,

Gerry. Bristol.

I'd rather guess that the RadWeld etc has coated the fan switch so it doesn't register the right temperature.  Those sealants are a quick fix, nothing more and shouldn't really be relied on for longer than is absolutely needed.  It tends to sit in lumps around the engine, causing locallised overheating.

Try JB Weld to fix the hole - but this will only be another quick fix.  Ideally, it needs a new radiator (and fan switch at a guess) sooner rather than later.
