Air Con - again
« on: 18 July 2008, 17:46:59 »

Engine out on the old bus and fiddling with bits now far easier to get at  :)

Anyway --- aircon is totally gasless --- possibly the condenser, or just that the thing has run dry over the years -- is this likely ?

Is it worth a re-gas just to see if it leaks, or is there a more scientific way of going about these things?

Tunnie or James --- can you recall if the aircon was ever looked at ?

Cheers

No it was not.

Remember that the owner before Tunnie swapped the engine for a knackered one out of a much older model that he convinced himself was good (i.e. the one you have just removed) and hence the aircon would have been emptied at this stage.

If it was me I would give the concenser a good check over having removed the rad (easy wth the engine out), pay attention to the bottom rows of it.

cant check for leaks if no gas, as the gas carries the die,(and oil) which is what they look for with uv light and glasses. wise to leak check while your there as they can vac out, repair, and re gas. if the leak is missed youll loose the gas and have to buy more.... and youll damage the environment. tut tut ;)

Condensor and drier £100 delivered from these guys

http://www.coolcaraircon.co.uk/

Bloody remarkable value. Shame it turned out there was nothing wrong with my old one and that the much more expensive and difficult to get at Evaporator is leaking. Mark
