Okay i think i must do it as soon as possible (ive done 10K on this car and the previous owner 7K so its been atleast 17K since any service has been done)

does halfrauds sell the oil filters?
i was planning to do this tomorow so yeah

Also the huge socket for the filter...  is it that or not?
Might have to play around today to see if my extension bar for socket set is long enough
Do it asap!!

Dealer for filter (and oil) - get a TC card, makes it cheaper ;).

Pretty certain yours is a U25DT, so 13mm bolt.  Sadly, it means more expensive filter though  :'(

Halfords would sell them, but whether or not they stock them......

With a TC card, filter is £10 + VAT, Oil is approx £30 + VAT for 4 x 5l cans

TD engine takes approx 6.5l

Did you look to see if your's has the same oil filter cover the same as in the guide I posted up. Some say it maybe different to that (smaller socket needed)

You can get cheaper ones, Halfords is a good buy.

If you're going to do your own oil changes, it will soon pay for itself.

I wouldn't attempt to tighten up the sump plug without a torque wrench.[/quote]

In forty years of servicing cars I have never used a torque wrench on the sump plug :o :o; you just know that you must never over-tighten! ;)

U25DT engine have metal oil filter cap, with 13mm bolt.

X25DT engine matel plastic oil filter cap, with 36mm socket reqd.

X25DT came in around 96, easiest way to tell apart is X25DT has a MAF

With a ABS Trade Card I purchased 5 litres of Vauxhall semi-synthetic oil (part 093165216) for £9.51 + VAT on 17th July 2008. :y :y

Okay thanks ill check when SWMBO has comes back from whereever it is she has gone with the car :P

In Tesco (i had to cycle there for some food) there was Castrol oil, 4l for 13 quid. As i dont have a card i may go for this.

So hopefully tomorow my car will be a bit healthier. Assuming all goes well. Whilst im at it i may aswell get a new airfilter as that has been a easy job on previous cars.

And to tell filter type...

Old style...

New style...

And this also help distinguish between U25DT and X25DT is if you have a MAF near air filter...
