Aux drive belt
« on: 18 August 2008, 18:03:37 »

The Aux Drive belt broke up on it's inner edge and the flying bits destroyed the oil pressure switch
Had to change the Aux Drive belt and after much effort and "rude words" I got it on.
The question is were should the tensioner sit, my one is almost to it's end stop in the most compressed postion.
My car has air-con so I thought I had been sold the belt for a Non air-con set-up but when I took it back the non air-belt was much shorter.
So I think I must have a after market belt made to the minimum dimensions
Do the belts stretch with age?

The non a/c one wouldn't fit - its about 9" shorter.

The belt was a Gates Micro-v XF part number 6PK2020
I got it from a local auto-factors. approx £18
So if you want 3 hours of "fun" try fitting one these

Just changed an alternator on a car tonight with the same issue, in this case the top bolt on the alternator mount was not fitted correctly and hence the tensioner was on max (it was a swine to get the belt off!).

So, just check that the alternator pulley is directly below the aux tensioner and not half an inch or so to the left.
