Where is the best place to get timing belt kit.
« on: 30 August 2008, 17:15:19 »

I know it has probably been on here somewhere but I am looking to get the timing kit for a 1995 2.5 v6 petrol engine.  I have heard different places and names mentioned.

I have been given a price from my local VX parts dept. for £155 inc vat.  Is this a good price. The Part No. is 93188674.  Does this have the tensioners etc.

I have found this website and they don't recommend FAI or Conti.

http://www.mcc-buyit.com/carparts/brakes/Timing_Belt_Kits.html

While I am asking is there anywhere in Chesterfield Derbyshire that can be recomended to replace the belt and roughly what sort of price am I looking at to have it done?

Sorry for all the questions and if it has been asked somewhere in the forum before just couldn't find it in a search.

look forward to your replies.

Get either Gates or Contitech kit.  GM kits made by these 2 suppliers.

Got 2 recently for V6s - Contitechs - top quality items.

Best price i could find was from http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/timing-belt-kit-vauxhall.php?pageNum_Recordset1=17&totalRows_Recordset1=313 - fast delivery, well packaged.

Vx quoted around £150 for belt kit (or £97 + VAT on TC)

Hope that helps.

I got my gates kit from autostuff18 on ebay. it came in at around 70 quid all in.  Oh and get the DVD from the OOf shop - superb in helping you save a fortune.

Thank you all for your help.  I have looked at both website links given and they are great prices.

https://sslrelay.com/buypartsby.co.uk/timing-belt-kit-info.php?recordID=6714

http://www.vauxcentre.co.uk/index.php?product_id=706112&option=Prod_detail&image_id=365883

are these the ones I am looking at correct?. The second one says that it fits ENG NO 083000419 UP TO 08578511.  My engine no is 08091969.

I have ordered the DVD from the shop on how to do the timing belt, will see how difficult it is, I am used to working on simpler carburretor Ford Granadas [smiley=lolk.gif]

To be on the safe side contact whichever supplier you use direct and they will check it for you.  hth :y

Hi all

I have watched the timing belt DVD and I feel that I do not have the confidence to have a go at it.

Can anyone therefore recommend a garage that can do it in the Chesterfield, Derbyshire area and how much will it be roughly.

Thank you in advance.

The Contitech one (buyparts) is correct for your engine - to ensure you gget right one provide buyparts with your engine nş when you order :y
I think the Gates one may be incorrect for your engine - check out http://www.vauxcentre.co.uk/index.php?product_id=488249&option=Prod_detail - again check with supplier quoting your engine nş.
