My PAS is not working at idle revs, and i am told this is an MOT failure  
I have been advised to flush the system and then add Wynns seal restorer additive which apparently is quite good.
Question is, what is the best way to flush the PAS system?

Can't imagine that's going to be a long term fix - but I may be talking rubbish.

I have a spare PAS pump if you want it. I think it's OK but I don't know for sure.

If its only at idle that the PAS doesn't work, yet when revving the engine makes the PAS kick in, my money is on the pump...

Same problem with my brothers Omega, changed the PAS pump, all fine now

How big a job is replacing the pump ? and are they the same model across the V6 range.

Did this many 'moons' ago, warning fluid WILL leak, disconnect power steering reservoir, undo 'feed' and then the 'return' pipes, (catch what fluid you can), use a length of pipe/tube connect to return pipe, connect a funnel to the feed. The idea works like a 'dialysis' machine, start engine, pour new fluid into funnel, empty return fluid into container, when the return fluid runs the same colour as the new it's flushed.

Sounds simple enough so sure to be a hell of a mess

Well job done.

Following the advice of a garage mechanic mate, I disconnected the reservoir and cobbled up a remote one with hoses and a 4 pint milk carton, pumped the old fluid out , the filled it with diesel engine oil! The reason being that diesel oil contains a detergent.  I let this run for 5 Min's then pumped out and filled with new ATF.  Ran this for 5 min then changed the ATF.  Repeated this twice more before pumping out and refitting the reservoir and filling with Wynn's power steering leak stop/ seal rejuvenate and more new ATF.

All seems good now.  Took about and hour all told and cost £30

For information the top hose on the reservoir is the suction side of the pump with the bottom being flow return.  It does flow at quite a reasonable rate so i was putting about 1 litre of ATF in my makeshift reservoir each time plus what was in the pipes.
