TD cruise control
« on: 05 September 2008, 17:46:21 »

With the correct cruise control stalk (2 wire) will a pre facelift stalk off a TD fit my facelift TD?

And what price would I expect to pay new from dealer?

On the same sort of subject...can a non diesel cruise stalk with the 4 wires be used on a diesel with a little rewiring?? i.e. are the 2 wires needed on the 4 wire version?

Just fitted it to mine last week, works a treat.
Cost was £42, there is only one stalk available now (part number 9181012) Vx are low on stock just to give you warning, there will be 2 left now I've got mine!
I remember reading that the 2 wire and 4 wire are different, and not interchangable, a td must have the 2 wire stalk.

I took the stalk off my Pre-facelift Elite and fitted it to my Facelift CD that had no CC and it worked fine. Just swapped the stalks and away to go.  :y

Dunno about the non diesel to diesel tho', but I wouldn't be surprised if it was as you say.

Found this info on another post, will explain why it doesnt work..

2.5TD stalk is 2 wire.....the standard stalks (i.e. petrol) are 4 wire as they have a supply line and 3 return lines, one for each switch.

The TD stalk works with a single wire thanks to the fact it has resistors in it so a different resistance is presented across the two wires depending on what switch you press.

The correct part number is 9181012 (as confirmed by my friendly and compitent parts manager)

Yup, 2.5 TD one is 2 wire, and based on resistor network.  All other omegas use 4 wire ones, including the other diesels.

Not worth buying second hand stalks, after a few years, they become weak and start playing up.

That has answered a question for me, I tried a CC switch from a pre-facelift on my facelift Diesel, * it didn't work, at least I now know why. My old switch is OK but will not "tap down" otherwise it's fine.
I will find one in a scrappy one day, not paying Vx prices.

The £30 + VAT from dealer is worthwhile.  2nd hand ones tend not to last - been there, done that. Several times.

Knowing that all tractors are at least 7yrs old, either yours had recently been replaced before car scrapped, or you are an unusual exception to rule.

The new ones feel a lot smoother to use, both father & mother tunnies have brand new ones, they are lot nicer to use, make less noise.

I got mine for a tenner from a scrappy, half tempted to put a brand new one on mine, and sell the old one on fleabay.

You would not be the first to remark that I am 'unusual'

Mick

Well after reading on here various comments decided to go with a new one, and it works a treat. Only downside cost me £40 + vat. My old stalk was on it's way out anyway, it was buzzing when I used it as if something was shorting in the contacts. Enquired about this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=380061666185&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=025 and he stuck it up for me to buy, bit pricey though for secondhand, off a "P" reg TD, he did originally have it on for £24.95 for 2 days.......not for me.....anyone?
