Was the belt replacement carried out by a garage? :-/ :-/

If so go back to them and complain about what has happened.  At least get an idea of what/where/how the oil leak has transpired.....but do not trust them!  Afterwards check for yourself or get a second opinion! ;)

As of now where do you believe the leak is from? :-/  Front, back, sides or underside of engine?

I took it to a garage, I will take it back to them. It looks like the leak is coming from around the cam belt cover and over the big wheel/cog  at the front of the engine, sorry I am not mechanically minded or gifted.

Sounds to me Andrew as though they have not replaced a gasket (cam covers?) properly, or have not used new genuine Vx ones! >:(

Too true go back to them complain as I suggested before and hold your ground when they try (maybe) to charge you extra to put their shoddy work right!! ::) ::) ::) ::)

I bought the cam belt kit off ebay, genuine part, it had the belt and 3 wheels in the kid but had no gaskets, should i have got those as well or would the one already on the car been ok?

but if they were just doing a cam belt, they'd have had no need to disturb cam covers.  :-/

I live near to sheffield, It wasn't a vauxhall garage but a local one who we have known for years, he charged me £65 to fit the belt.
The part was from ebay for £54. and vauxhall was going to charge me £280 for the part and fitting.

The gaskets do not come with the Cam Kit, but if the Cam covers were removed new gaskets for them should have been fitted.

I am sure that with a 2.2 straight 4-pot it is aviseable for the water pump to be replaced at the same time.

I am sure our real Omega engine experts on here will give you further advise in due course! :y :y

The first thing is though to go back to the garage, who on the face of it charged a very reasonable price if the job has been done to Vx standards. :y

That is what I think Andy, but it sounds as though they may have disturbed them for some reason :o :o

It does all depend on what is actually wrong and where on the engine before any thing can be reliably stated.

Come back to the Forum and let us all know what the garage have said before committing yourself.  At least that is what I would do if I had to use a garage again! :D ;)

There should be no need to touch anything other than the cambelt and hence the question would be, was the oil leak already there?

It is advisable to change the water pump on the 4 pots when doing the cambelt kit.

Prior to having the belt done there was no leak at all, and also the engine management light comes on when I start the car, I turn the ignition off and start it again and it goes off, does that have anything to do with it?
